Kairos Power is an advanced nuclear company based in Alameda, California, founded in 2016. It is developing the KP-FHR, a fluoride salt-cooled high-temperature reactor, through iterative development and vertical integration. Google agreed to work with Kairos on up to 500 MW of advanced nuclear capacity, starting with the Hermes 2 plant at Oak Ridge, Tennessee.
Kairos designs and builds fluoride salt-cooled high-temperature reactors that use TRISO pebble fuel and molten fluoride salt coolant. It builds demonstration reactors in sequence and makes many components in-house.
