Antora Energy is a U.S. company that makes factory-built thermal batteries, which store low-cost electricity as heat in blocks of solid carbon and deliver it as round-the-clock heat or power. It was founded in 2018 and makes its batteries at a gigafactory in San Jose, California. In May 2026 it commissioned a 5 GWh system at POET's Big Stone City biofuel plant in South Dakota.
Antora heats insulated blocks of solid carbon to glowing-hot temperatures using renewable or off-peak electricity. The stored heat is delivered to industrial processes, often as steam, or converted back to electricity with the company's thermophotovoltaic cells. Units are modular and the company says they scale from megawatts to gigawatts.

Project Big Stone at POET's bioprocessing facility in Big Stone City, South Dakota, uses more than 200 Antora thermal batteries for 5 GWh of multi-day storage. It went from construction to delivering energy in under 12 months and was commissioned on May 19, 2026, under a long-term heat offtake agreement.

Antora is a long-duration storage option for sites that need heat as well as power. Data center buyers would evaluate it as firm on-site energy rather than as backup power.
